February 4, 1967 had been a day of rejoicing as well as a day of feelings of loss for the people of Steamboat Springs. The best of the world of skiing round up on this day at the stunning new building at the west end of Lincoln Avenue to pay their last homage to Wallace "Bud" Werner. His name is posted above the door of the building and this sign states "Bud Werner Memorial Library". The library started with 4700 books in its collection and the total amount has become over 14,000. In 1971, the museum was specified to be a district library providing it a bigger base from which to increase income for preservation and upkeep. steamboat springs activities
